Here’s a list of five things about the beautiful town of Cumming, GA that you may not know.

  1. Cumming is a small town in northern Georgia, about an hour north of Atlanta and 15 miles from Alpharetta, and it’s the county seat of Forsyth County, Georgia. The city's name comes from Colonel William Cumming, a distinguished officer in the War of 1812. Initially, the town was called "Haw Creek" but was later renamed to honor Colonel Cumming.

  2. Alcoholic Beverages were banned for over a century!  Forsyth County, where Cumming is located, prohibited the sale of alcoholic beverages for more than a century. This ban started in 1882 and lasted until 2012 when the county voted to allow the sale of alcohol.

  3. The Cumming Schoolhouse is a historic building that was used as a school for over 40 years from 1923 to 1966. It has been preserved and now operates as a local museum, showcasing artifacts and exhibits related to the city's history and education.

  4. Cumming was once home to the Cumming Speedway, a popular dirt racetrack that operated from the 1950s to the 1970s. The speedway hosted various motorsports events and attracted racing enthusiasts across the region.

  5. The Sawnee Mountain Preserve is a natural gem in Cumming!  It offers hiking trails, picnic areas, and stunning views of the surrounding landscape, including the Atlanta skyline on clear days. The preserve is not only a recreational area but also serves as an educational resource about the local environment.
